On September 6, DB Schenker launched its first direct "less than container load" or LCL service from Italy to Vietnam connecting the ports of Genoa and Cat Lai in South Vietnam on a regular weekly basis.
Advantages of LCL shipping
LCL is a simple and cost-efficient option for shippers looking for ways to reduce inventory that is tying up precious working capital. A shipper that might today send one or two full containers per month, can increase the shipping frequency by sharing container space with cargo from other exporters. Boris Torchalla, Head of LCL for Southeast Asia, said: “This new service supports our Southeast Asia growth strategy and aims at providing customers a range of new competitive shipping alternatives connecting Europe and Asia. Adding the Eastbound connection to our already well established Westbound service, from Cal Lai port to Italy, means our customers have more options in both directions.”
Why Italy - Vietnam?
The new service caters to a growing number of Italian and Vietnamese importers and exporters who are expanding their business and have a need for flexible ocean freight shipping solutions. Italy has always been an important trading partner of Vietnam and is currently the biggest trade partner of Italy in ASEAN. When the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) comes into effect, trade between Italy and Vietnam is only expected to grow even faster. To launch the new service, DB Schenker offers promotional rates until the end of October 2018. There will be one weekly departure with a transit time of 30 days.
